Fall 2009 Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty at Christian Siriano

SHOW:
Christian Siriano
MAKEUP: Polly Osmond for Victoria's Secret Beauty
HAIR: Jon Reyman, Artistic Director for Aveda
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT: Walk like an Egyptian in modern day Cleopatra-style.

THE SCOOP: If you're wondering what ever happened to the most flamboyant (and, in our opinion, most talented) winner of Project Runway, look no further. Christian Siriano's fierce Fall runway show was full of attitude and glamour - a hot mess, in a good way. Backstage, models were made to look like modern Cleopatra's to echo the chainmail fringe they'd be wearing on the runway. "We wanted an Egyptian feel without being too literal," said makeup artist Polly Osmond. "Christian was really into gold lips." Osmond used heavy black liner on the bottom lids to create a Cleopatra-esqe shape, with gold shadow on the upper lids. For hair, Jon Reyman created a modified ponytail chignon to round out the Pharaoh inspiration. "We wanted a hair style that's bold, geometric, sculpted and strong." The squared-off style he created could seduce any Caesar.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Silky Shadow in Champagne, Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Eyeliner in Black Velvet, Victoria's Secret Beauty Lipstick in Wet, (gold pigment on lips was created esecially for the show).

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: Part hair in center and pull it back in a tight ponytail, appying Aveda Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother for moldability and shine. Twist it down into a horizontal chignon for a strong rectangular shape, tuck the bottom under and pin it.

Fall 2009 Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty at J. Mendel

THE SHOW: J. Mendel
MAKEUP: Tanya Cropsey for Bobbi Brown
HAIR: Odile Gilbert for Barex Italiana
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT: Chic, elegant and modern

THE SCOOP: "There are tons of statement pieces in J. Mendel's Fall 2009 collection," said makeup artist Tanya Cropsey. "From simple silhouettes to luxe furs, it's absolutely jaw-dropping." Cropsey wanted to makeup to act as a backdrop to the clothing, subtly defining the eye and lips in matte shades instead of hightlighting one feature. The eyes, which Cropsey described as "the moden smoky eye" diffused matte, dark gray shadow from the lashline to the crease, with no mascara or liner. Pouts were velvety red and matte to complement the eyes. The hair was an equal mixture of elegance and modernity, a slicked back splice of chignon and modified ponytail. Hair stylist Odile Gilbert called it "chic elegant and modern - from the front, the sides and the back it look like different styles."

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Caviar, Steel and White, Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Red.

GET THE LOOK- HAIR: Gilber worked Barex Italiana Gum Gum through the hair, then gave it a deep side part and round it back like you're making a high chignon, but secure it as a ponytail instead. Gilbert then looped a black string inder the hair near the nape of the neck and used it to secure the bottom of the ponytail. She finished the look with a spritz of Barex Italiana Gloss Hair Spray, to get the hair extra smooth and shiny.

Fall 2009 Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty at TIBI

SHOW: Tibi
MAKEUP: Makky for MAC
HAIR:
Kevin Ryan for Rsessions
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT:
Dr. Zhivago does 80's decadence

THE SCOOP: Inspired by the color-pop prints and peacock solids in Tibi's Fall 2009 line, Makky turned the makeup to a decade when optimism was king, and neon colors ruled. Yes, that would be the 80's. "The look is very Christy Turlington circa Vogue in the late 80's, said Makky. "When bright blue eye shadow was really in." To make the look very fresh and modern, and not too Barbie, he cut off the end of the eye color for a very graphic, square shape. The also hair echoed this optimistic outlook. "I was inspired by Dr. Zhivago," said hair stylist Kevin Ryan. "We're creating opulent hair that doesn't suit the environment. We're doing lots of gorgeous curls, that will then be brushed out and pulled back – so there's an underlying history of gorgeous. "

GET THE LOOK – MAKEUP: Makky used MAC's new turquoise shade for fall, blended with true blue MAC Eye Shadow in Electric Eel on the top lid and squared off at the ends, with a cobalt blue shade beneath the lower lash lines. For concentrated color, use MAC Paint Pot in Painterly underneath. "It's a cream shadow that dries in a minute and really pops every color you put on top," says Makky. Lips were downplayed in MAC Hello Kitty Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Fish. "I love these because the balm texture allows you to wear trendy shades like pale pink without going crazy."
